Island Glass Company replaces cracked, shattered, and vandalized glass for homes and commercial buildings across Whittier and the surrounding Southern California cities. When a window breaks we focus on two things: making the opening safe today, and bringing back the right replacement glass that matches the original unit so the repair disappears.
What we replace
- Single-pane residential windows — annealed or tempered glass cut to size and re-glazed in the existing sash or frame
- Dual-pane insulating glass units (IGU) — re-fabricated to match the original dimensions, thickness, spacer, and low-E coating
- Tempered safety glass — for any opening that requires it by code (doors, stairs, near tubs, near floors)
- Storefront lites — large commercial glass in aluminum framing, tempered or laminated as required
- Patio and sliding door glass — including the large tempered panels in a vinyl or aluminum slider
- Shower enclosure glass — custom replacement when a panel cracks
Emergency and board-up service
For commercial break-ins, vehicle impacts, or storm damage, we can typically arrive within a few hours to board up the opening with plywood so the business can secure the site overnight. The replacement glass is then ordered, fabricated, and installed as soon as it arrives. Most standard clear IGUs take three to seven business days; tempered, laminated, and custom-coated glass run longer.
Measurement and match
Insurance-covered broken glass jobs are common. We document the broken unit with photos, take exact dimensions, and record thickness, coating, and spacer details so the replacement matches. For older dual-pane units where one lite has failed, we rebuild the IGU rather than replace the full window — usually a significant cost savings.
