Island Glass Company installs bullet-resistant (commonly called “bulletproof”) glass for banks, credit unions, dispensaries, government buildings, jewelry stores, check-cashing, and other high-security environments across Whittier and the surrounding Southern California cities. Every installation is specified to a UL-752 rating that matches the threat level and sized to the opening.
What we install
Bullet-resistant glazing is built up from multiple layers of glass, polycarbonate, or hybrid laminates bonded under heat and pressure. The thicker the build, the higher the rating.
- UL-752 Level 1 — stops three rounds of 9mm handgun fire; typical thickness around 1-1/4 inches
- UL-752 Level 2 — stops .357 Magnum handgun rounds
- UL-752 Level 3 — stops .44 Magnum handgun rounds
- UL-752 Level 4 — stops .30-06 rifle rounds
- UL-752 Levels 5-8 — rifle-level protection, including 7.62mm and 5.56mm NATO rounds; full transparent armor
We also install hybrid glass-clad polycarbonate systems that combine the scratch resistance and clarity of glass with the spall-shield performance of polycarbonate on the protected side.
Framing and installation
Bullet-resistant glass has to be framed in a system engineered to hold the glass under impact. We install:
- Steel and aluminum bandit frames — designed for specific UL-752 levels
- Bullet-resistant doors — full-assembly doors rated to the same level as the surrounding glazing
- Pass-through hardware — deal trays, lazy susans, and cycling pass-through drawers so goods and payments can move without opening the barrier
Every installation is coordinated with the architect or security consultant specifying the threat level. Wall construction behind and adjacent to the glazing also matters — a Level 3 window in a standard drywall wall still has a vulnerability through the wall itself.
