Frameless Showers

Island Glass Company designs and installs custom frameless glass shower enclosures for homes across Whittier and surrounding Southern California cities.

Frameless Showers

Island Glass Company fabricates and installs custom frameless shower enclosures across Whittier, Pico Rivera, La Habra, Santa Fe Springs, and the surrounding Southern California area. Every enclosure is measured on site, cut to the exact opening, and installed with heavy tempered glass that meets CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety standards for shower doors.

What we install

A frameless shower is exactly what the name suggests: a shower enclosure built from thick tempered glass panels held together by hardware alone, with no aluminum frame wrapping the perimeter. The result is a clean, seamless look that makes the bathroom feel larger and lets tile, stone, and fixtures show through without interruption.

We build the full range of frameless configurations:

  • Single fixed panels over a tub or walk-in curb
  • Hinged swing doors against a wall jamb or inline panel
  • Inline doors with return panels for larger walk-ins
  • 90-degree neo-angle enclosures for corner showers
  • Steam shower enclosures with sealed transoms to hold humidity in

Glass options

Most frameless doors use 3/8-inch tempered glass. For taller openings, wider doors, or steam enclosures, we step up to 1/2-inch for rigidity. Glass choices include:

  • Clear tempered — the cleanest look, maximizes light and showcases tile work
  • Low-iron (Starphire-style) — removes the green tint you see in standard clear glass, so whites read truly white
  • Frosted or acid-etched — privacy without blocking light
  • Rain, reed, or fluted — textured glass for a softer, more decorative finish
  • ShowerGuard or EnduroShield coatings — applied at the factory or on site to resist hard-water spotting

Hardware is finished to match the bathroom: polished chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, champagne bronze, and oil-rubbed bronze are all available.

Installation process

Every frameless shower starts with a free in-home consultation. Shayvis or a lead tech walks the opening with the homeowner, confirms how the tile and curb are laid out, and talks through door swing, handle style, and glass type. After tile is set and fully cured, we return to template the opening with a laser or pattern to within 1/16 of an inch. Fabrication typically takes one to two weeks. Install day runs three to five hours for a standard enclosure.

We do not cut corners on prep. Shims are set, hardware is drilled into studs or blocking where possible, and every seam is sealed with 100% silicone. The door is adjusted on site until it closes on its own weight and holds its position at any angle.

Why frameless

Beyond the look, a properly installed frameless enclosure is easier to clean, has no metal track to collect soap scum, and does not rust out over time. With heavy glass and quality hinges, a frameless door should last the life of the bathroom.

Frameless Showers — FAQs

How much does a frameless shower enclosure cost in Whittier? +

Most frameless shower enclosures in Whittier and surrounding Southern California cities range from $1,800 to $3,500 installed, depending on glass thickness, door configuration, and hardware finish. Island Glass Company provides free on-site estimates and typically installs in a single day after a 7-to-10 business-day fabrication window. Low-iron (ultra-clear) glass and specialty coatings like ShowerGuard will sit at the higher end of that range.

Should I choose 3/8 inch or 1/2 inch glass for my frameless shower? +

Both thicknesses are tempered to CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety standards, so the choice is mostly aesthetic and structural. 3/8-inch glass is the most common and keeps costs down on standard walk-in showers. 1/2-inch glass has a more substantial feel, is preferred for wide spans or heavy glass doors without a header, and adds roughly 15-20% to the glass cost. Our team recommends a thickness based on your opening size during the free estimate.

How long does it take to get a custom glass shower installed? +

From the time you approve your quote, most custom shower enclosures are fabricated and installed within 7 to 14 business days. We measure on site, order tempered glass cut to your exact opening, and install in a single visit that typically takes 3 to 5 hours. Rush options are available for time-sensitive remodels.
