Island Glass Company fabricates and installs custom glass shelves for bathrooms, kitchens, retail showrooms, showers, and display niches across Whittier and the surrounding Southern California cities. Every shelf is cut to the exact opening, edged to a clean finish, and mounted with hardware sized to the load.
What we install
- Floating glass shelves — mounted on concealed aluminum extrusions or standoff pins with no visible brackets
- Bracketed shelves — clear or chrome clip brackets, for the traditional medicine-cabinet look
- Niche shelves — cut to fit tile-lined shower niches and bathroom recesses
- Retail display shelves — in cases, in window displays, and on wall-mounted standards
- Heavy decorative shelves — 3/8 or 1/2-inch thick glass for a substantial custom look in kitchens, bars, and entryways
Specs
Most shelves are 3/8-inch tempered glass, which handles typical bathroom loads and looks substantial without being too heavy. For thinner applications we can step down to 1/4-inch. For long spans or heavy retail loads we step up to 1/2-inch.
Edge finishes available: flat polish, pencil polish, or beveled. Corners can be radiused or clipped where a sharp edge would be a hazard (near a doorway or walkway, for example).
Mounting and load
Every shelf install considers the wall substrate and the load. Tile over cement board, drywall with studs, concrete, and tile over a shower pan all get different mounting hardware. Heavy loads get through-bolted standoffs into studs or blocking. Light decorative shelves can float on bracket rails anchored to drywall anchors rated for the load.
We will never install a shelf without confirming it can hold its intended use. If the wall construction will not support what you want, we will say so before we cut glass.
